Who are we?
After the Sydney 2000 Paralympics. Athletes with a disability in the Illawarra area, (led by Eino Okkonen, who was a basketball player prior to a car accident and now an amputee) decided to form a Team to play in what was then, a very basic National Wheelchair Basketball League made up of a state-based team from Western Australia, Melbourne, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and NSW.
The Roller Hawks entered the NWBL in 2001 and the first committee was formed i.e IWB Illawarra Wheelchair Basketball.
IWB was a not for profit organisation affiliated with Wheelchair Basketball Australia (WBA), managed by players of the sport and non playing volunteers.
